GLRC counselors begin by helping each client pinpoint important issues related to their addiction and life history. At the same time, clients identify their personal strengths, support systems and other resources they’ll need for a successful, long-term recovery.
While living at Adult Residential Services, clients will participate in regularly scheduled groups on a daily basis with different presenters covering a broad range of materials. In addition, clients will be assigned an individual counselor to help develop a pathway towards recovery to meet their specific needs.
Daily living at Adult Residential Services includes participation in daily living activities, congregate meals and learning to work together in the community while developing lifelong relationships.
From the first day of treatment, clients begin to brainstorm transition planning needs for their return home. GLRC's goal is help clients obtain access to the care and assistance they will need for a successful transition back into the community.

Clients are evaluated by a physician on intake and often arrive with serious medical issues. Medical providers are on site three days per week to provide on-site consultations and exams. Medications, physician’s orders and other health-related issues are supervised by a licensed medication manager.
Our programming is designed to offer and expose clients to many different pathways to recovery. Clients are encouraged to participate in and follow the 12 step recovery model with many of the principles of the 12 steps are weaved into GLRC's program. Clients are urged to attend AA and NA meetings both during and after treatment. Our curriculum also includes Smart Recovery groups. Clients are encouraged to find their own path to recovery and what works for them.
A chaplain serves on a team of caregivers to offer Spiritual Care to clients of Great Lakes Recovery Centers. Chaplains are theologically trained and may also have additional clinical training (C.P.E.- Clinical Pastoral Education). However, no matter their own faith tradition, chaplains are trained to assist clients and families of any faith, as well as those with no faith or those who are unsure.
